Know you rights with the cops

Further to the disquiet in the LGBT community about the NSW police, ACON is having a community forum in regards to your rights when confronted with this:
Inner City Legal Centre Director Dan Stubbs said it was important for the community to be informed on what they can and can’t do when dealing with police, particularly in light of the recent controversy surrounding police behaviour at this year’s Mardi Gras.

“We need to provide some legal information to the community, particularly people who are going to events like Mardi Gras, so that people can know and be confident about what’s appropriate when they have contact with police,” Stubbs told SX.

“We want people to know what their rights are but we also need them to know what their obligations are.”

Among the topics to be covered are the use of drug detection dogs ; what constitutes ‘reasonable suspicion’; guidelines around strip searches; the use of recording equipment; the charge and court process; and making official police complaints. more
The forum is on Thursday April 11th starting at 7pm. ACON is at 414 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills. RSVP email to Teddy Cook at tcook@acon.org.au
