QLD gov hugs the dying coal industry - 6.4% unemployment

The move is on away from fossil fuels. Queensland's coal industry is now in dire straights, with the state unemployment level already at 6.4% (national average is 6.1% I think). Yet the Lieberal Newman gov still clings to coal, like the fossilized Lieberals they are.

If they had any brains they'd do what the rest of the world is doing; investing in renewables. I'm sure such an investment in a fast rising industry of the future would be a great way to pump some life into the economy. Well not if you're a Lieberal.

Newman still, in the face of huge world trends away from coal, still hugs it like fuckin manna from heaven. Fuck what a brainless moron.
Central Queensland’s largest employer, BHP Billiton recently announced 700 workers would go across its metallurgical coal business, representing 8pc of its 6000 FTE staff at subsidiary BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA). Isaac Plains Coal Joint Venture also warned of hundreds of job losses at its open cut mine in the Bowen Basin.

In a recent ABC News Queensland bulletin, the Queensland Resources Council estimated that thousands of mining jobs have been lost across central Queensland over the last two years.

However, Queensland Premier Campbell Newman reassured the sector that, “coal is going to be needed for many, many decades to come.” - See more
