National Australia Bank has said it will not fund what would be the biggest coal mine in Australia, Adani's $16 billion Carmichael coal project, and signalled that it wants to take a leading role in developing renewable energy.
While Adani has not approached NAB, and the bank has not done due diligence on the coal project, a NAB spokesperson said the bank "is not involved and has no plans to be involved in any financing of the Carmichael coal mine".
NAB had no appetite to finance the project in its current form, even if it were asked to, sources told Fairfax Media. Read more

They weren't involved but they've taken the step to publicly rule out funding Adani and the mining of the Queensland Galilee Basin carbon bomb. You can thank the NAB here :)

HRC commissioner Triggs interview - Nauru
A third report has come out condemning basically everything that's going on with asylum seekers locked up in jail offshore at Nauru. Gillian Triggs, Australia's Human Rights Commissioner, lays it all out as to WTF is going on there and how wrong it is.
She can't even go there herself as the Abbott regime has made it so inaccessible to Australians. Shame shame shame ........

Leaders not taking climate change seriously "Not fit to lead" - Obama
Hey Tone's, remember this shit you said? Climate change is "crap"?
Hey Tone's, look what Obama's saying now then:
Hey Tone's, look what Obama's saying now then:
In a speech in Alaska at the end of an 11-day tour of the US which has promoted renewable energy, championed solar and called for action on climate change, Obama’s comments appeared pitched at domestic politics, as well as the lead-in to the Paris climate talks less than 100 days away.
He painted something of a doomsday scenario if swift action was not taken. Entire nations will find themselves facing severe, severe problems: “More drought. More floods. Rising sea levels. Greater migration. More refugees. More scarcity. More conflict,” Obama said.
“Any leader willing to take a gamble on a future like that, any leader who refuses to take this issue seriously or treats it like a joke, is not fit to lead.
“The time to heed the critics and the cynics and the deniers is past. On this issue — of all issues —there is such a thing as being too late. And that moment is almost upon us.” more
Australia's current account blows out 41% - BUDGET-EMERGENCY©!
*crickets*
Note from the graph the terrible blowout in the current account deficit since 2010, to now when the latest yearly quarter has come in at a whopping $19billion.
The graph is interactive BTW. Note that much was made by Team Abbott about the BUDGET-EMERGENCY© leading up to the Sept 2013 election when Abbott became prime minister. The deficit was around $800billion in total, bringing on the infamous 2014 BUDGET-EMERGENCY© budget. About 20 bridges too far for the Australian public, wanting fairness without pensioners paying off the foreign debt whilst the big end of town paid nothing and avoided taxes. Which saw Abbott's polling dive to historical lows of which the gov has never recovered from.
Magically the BUDGET-EMERGENCY© disappeared over night as Team Abbott tried to come back from electoral Armageddon. In this year's budget Team Abbott suddenly told us the BUDGET-EMERGENCY© was all over as the adults were now in charge. Or something like that.
Well if there was a BUDGET-EMERGENCY© in 2013, there must be a hell of a problem now with it approaching $1trillion. Oh but we're all OK, Team Abbott is dealing with it, trust him, we're OK, no BUDGET-EMERGENCY© here.

Kim Davis defies court, refuses gay marriage licences "under god's authority" - US
*Update: Her statement calls this a "heaven or hell decision".*Update 2: She's been married 4 times.
Update 3: Contempt of court charge has been filed.
What a total bitch fat pig christian she is.
The county clerks office became the scene of historic confrontation as county clerk Kim Davis defied the courts and refuses to issue marriage licences to gay couples, despite it being her job to do so. When asked "Under who's authority?" she could do so, the fuckin christian bitch stood there defiantly in front of these LGBT people and replied "Under god's authority".
Fuck I wish I had of been there! I'd have told her to stick her fuckin god up her bloody fat ass. She has no right in a secular society to invoke god to discriminate and break the law.
Needless to say she now faces contempt of court charges. An historic moment in US history. Kim Davis will go down in infamy.
A county clerk in Kentucky who is continuing to deny marriage licenses to gay couples says she's doing so "under God's authority."
Rowan County clerk Kim Davis emerged from her office Tuesday morning after some couples were denied the licenses. She asked David Moore and David Ermold, who've been rejected four times, to leave. They refused, surrounded by reporters and cameras.
Ermold said: "We're not leaving until we have a license."
Davis responded: "Then you're going to have a long day."
Davis' supporters whooped from the back of the room: "Praise the Lord" and "stand your ground."
Others shouted that Davis is a bigot and told her: "Do your job."
The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to intervene in the case, leaving Davis no legal grounds to refuse to grant licenses to gay couples. A district judge could now hold her in contempt, which can carry steep fines or jail time. more

$ pouring to GetUp for Canning campaign - solar a big issue
The Solar industry has announced it's pulling out all stops in the Canning by election in Western Australia, and GetUp has money pouring to it for it's GetUp campaign there; one of the biggest aspects of that being the solar issue and Abbott's war on the sun.
This is very effective grass roots campaigning. A far cry from
You can donate to the GetUp campaign here if you like.
This is the email:
Whether The Lieberals loose Canning remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure - the 12% safety margin is going to take a real hammering.
In one of the biggest fundraising efforts of the year, GetUp members are piling in to make the Canning by-election a day of reckoning for Prime Minister Abbott's conservative agenda, and his relentless attacks on our clean energy future.
In just 18 days, Canning could go from a super safe Liberal seat to an LNP loss in a knife-edge by-election. And with the 12th highest solar uptake in the country, Canning has been transformed into a key fighting ground for clean energy candidates.
Polling shows that clean energy is a serious vote-shifter in Canning, which means that this by-election is our chance to put the writing on the wall: Australians are sick of a government that puts the vested interests of big polluters at the expense of our Reef, our climate, and investment in clean energy and renewables jobs.
We've already locked in two billboards and digital ads across multiple platforms, but we're still scrambling for some prime local newspaper advertising, which could see our messages land in the laps of 56% of Canning voters.
Can you chip in to get game-changing renewables ads in front of Canning voters, combining the impact of massive billboards with full page local newspaper ads, and targeted digital advertising?
Even senior Liberal Party leaders admit that a loss like this would be a clear rebuke to Mr Abbott's non-stop horror show of bad policy – one that could very well cost him his job. Will you help send shockwaves through the government in Canning?
Thanks for being a part of it, Nat, Mark, Kajute and Sam L, for the GetUp team contribute here

Dutton's office sprung - 2nd press release email was read
Dopey Dutton's lies are starting to unravel. The second email requesting Dutton's office take a look at the press release for the Border Farce, was read. Dutton is on record that nobody read the press release in his office, including him, as it all looked "routine".
However, the second email was sent to Dutton as well as the assistant immigration minister Michaelia Cash (Did her or her office supposedly not read it either?). It was stated that the press release was sent for "noting"; ie making sure someone read the bloody thing and approved of it's release the next day. Was this also "routine" to follow up an email the next day to make sure it had been read?
Dutton's media adviser replied to the email "Thanks for letting me know".
Yet the claim is that Dutton, his assistant minister, and none of their staff read the press release the second time either.
Bullshit.

Yet the claim is that Dutton, his assistant minister, and none of their staff read the press release the second time either.
Bullshit.
The media adviser for immigration minister Peter Dutton replied “thanks for letting me know” the second time his office was sent a press release from Australian Border Force that appeared to threaten random visa checks and forced the cancellation of a Victorian police operation at the weekend.
The government has suggested Victorian border force officials are to blame for the press release, which incorrectly suggested ABF would be “speaking with any individual we cross paths with” during a multi-agency crackdown on crime and antisocial behaviour.
Guardian Australia revealed at the weekend the release had actually been sent to the immigration minister Peter Dutton’s office twice – as an attachment to a briefing note about the operation. A spokesman for Dutton confirmed the first email had been received on Wednesday afternoon, but said the press release had not been read because it “looked like a routine operation”.
The second email, sent from Victorian border force last Thursday morning to both Dutton’s office and the office of assistant immigration minister Michaelia Cash, appeared to be seeking an assurance from the minister’s office that someone had read the material.
It read, “Hi, apologies. I should have sent this for noting originally” and confirmed ABF was intending to publicly post the media release on Friday morning.
A staff member for Dutton replied: “Thanks for letting me know.” more
County clerk faces jail for her bigotry - US
This has finally come to a head. Kim Davis has attracted infamy for her religious stance against gay marriage. Ever since SCOTUS ruled that gay marriage was legal across the US she has stopped issuing marriage licences. A number of same sex couples have been turned away more than once whilst she appealed to the courts that she shouldn't have to do her job because the bible.
Now, all appeals are lost with the supreme court ordering her to issue licences or face contempt of court charges, which may involve jail time. Will she issue marriage licences to gay couples or will she go to jail for Jesus?
Or will she simply do the right thing and resign from her job. It's obvious she's incapable of performing it. She's not living in a theocracy.

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled against the Kentucky county clerk who has refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses, and the clerk will arrive at work Tuesday morning to face her moment of truth.
Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis will have to choose whether to issue marriage licenses, defying her Christian conviction, or continue to refuse them, defying a federal judge who could pummel her with fines or order that she be hauled off to jail.
"She's going to have to think and pray about her decision overnight. She certainly understands the consequences either way," Mat Staver, founder of the law firm representing Davis, said on Monday, hours before a court-ordered delay in the case expired. "She'll report to work tomorrow, and face whatever she has to face."
A line of couples, turned away by her office again and again in the two months since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized gay marriage across the nation, plan to meet her at the courthouse door.
"Wow, wow, wow, I can't believe it, we might finally be able to get a license tomorrow," April Miller said Monday night, shortly after the court's decision. She has been denied twice to marry her partner of more than a decade. more

High office public officials must use email - Electronic Fontiers, Australia
I dedicate this post to both Dopey Dutton and Dyson Heydon. Dutton who didn't read the press release emailed to him twice, and Dyson Heydon who refuses to even have a PC and has emails printed out for him.In 2015 it's beyond comprehension that emails can go unread or can't be read because of computer ignorance. In high office this is inexcusable.
I thought it was pathetic that my older brother in Hick town Taranaki (NZ) didn't read his emails and had his daughter see to them when he was running a fuckin business. But the immigration minister of Australia doesn't read a national press release emailed to him twice? Or the Royal Commissioner into union corruption across Australia is so computer illiterate that he has to have his emails printed out to him on paper? WTF?
It is no longer acceptable for high-ranking public officials to not possess at least the most basic computer and electronic communication skills as are required for the most junior entry-level positions.
Legal professionals particularly are required to undertake a minimum level of professional development throughout their careers. It is therefore very difficult to understand how any legal professional could attain a high public office without having gained even basic computer literacy and a grasp of simple electronic communication platforms such as email.
There are many excellent training courses available from any number of organisations around Australia and online. Most local libraries offer very high quality free training to residents on all sorts of internet and web-based systems. There is also no shortage of daughters, sons, neices, nephews and god-children that are more than capable of providing basic computer skills training to those in their families whose formal training occured in the pre-digital age.
EFA would be happy to provide guidance and basic training in the use of email to any high-ranking public officials that are in need of such remedial assistance. Electronic Frontiers
The media's trying to bring down the Abbott gov! - Lieberals
Dopey Dutton is claiming media bias from the Fairfax mob. Says it's all the media's fault reporting on gov woes, well at least the Fairfax media. Says they're not supposed to be biased or something. Says they're in cahoots with those evil ABC leftie lynch mob people.
They're desperate now. Grabbing at straws. As I've said before, the voters have heard their message loud and clear and they hate it.
Nothing said about Murdoch's blatant bias in 2013 that saw Abbott win and become PM. *crickets*
In an interview with the ABC's AM program on Tuesday, Mr Dutton blamed media organisations when asked what the government could do to steer itself back on course and communicate its message to voters.Oh pleeeaassseee......
"I think it would be helpful if some of the commentators in the area, in this space of politics, started reporting on the incidents, as opposed to being players themselves," he said.
"I think there's a huge move by Fairfax at the moment to try and bring the government down, that's fair enough.
"They aren't supposed to be political players, they're supposed to be objective reporters of the news and I think many of them have morphed into frustrated politicians themselves."
Mr Dutton later told Sky News: "The reality is that there is a bit of a jihad being conducted by Fairfax at the moment." Read more

Solar industry to campaign in Canning by election
The Australian solar industry is fighting for it's life under Team Abbott and his war on the sun. I guess they have little choice but to enter the political fray in that fight. They're pulling out all the stops in Canning.
You can donate to their campaign here if you want.
Canning has shaped up as a test of the Abbott gov's policies and Abbott's prime ministership.
This from the email:
We know direct conversations with voters make the biggest impact and politicians tend to listen very closely when their own jobs are at stake. That’s why over the next 19 days we'll be pulling out all stops, hitting the footpaths and the phones, to talk to as many solar owners as possible about the power of their vote.
But campaigns that get results cost money - we'll need to make thousands of phone calls to constituents, print just as many campaign signs for solar owners to display in their yards, along with covering volunteer costs and extra staff time. We're ready to give it our all, but we need your backing. Can you chip in to help us make it happen? Rest assured - one thing we absolutely won't be doing is telling people who to vote for. What we will be doing is giving people the facts so they can decide for themselves how best to make their vote count for solar.
There’s no doubt about it. Australians are way ahead of our politicians when it comes to solar and renewables. Solar Citizens across the country have worked relentlessly to get the Labor Opposition to back at least 50% renewable energy by 2030, a fair go for solar owners and support for people who want to make the move and take control of soaring power bills. The next step is to get the Coalition on board.
A mighty solar campaign in Canning is our opportunity to demonstrate to every single Australian politician that the solar vote matters, so we can end the attacks on solar and renewables once and for all. Let’s make those 70,000 solar votes count. contribute here
