90cm sea level rise "locked in" - NASA

NASA now says that a 3 foot (91cm) rise in sea levels is locked in. Might as well round that off to a metre I reckon.

"Given what we know now about how the ocean expands as it warms and how ice sheets and glaciers are adding water to the seas, it’s pretty certain we are locked into at least 3 feet of sea level rise, and probably more," said Steve Nerem of the University of Colorado, Boulder, and lead of NASA's interdisciplinary Sea Level Change Team. "But we don't know whether it will happen within a century or somewhat longer." 

The Greenland ice sheet has contributed more greatly to sea level rise, losing an average of 303 gigatons of ice a year over the past decade, while the Antarctic ice sheet has lost an average of 118 gigatons a year. But scientists at NASA and the University of California, Irvine warned last year that glaciers in the West Antarctic "have passed the point of no return." more

GetUp is pulling out all the stops for a big effort in Canning. They want to book billboards in key commuter corridors but only have a short time in which to book them.

Far from just an average boring by election in a safe Lieberal seat, Canning has shaped up as a do or die election for Abbott's prime minister-ship. There is widespread consensus that if Canning is lost to Labor then Abbott will lose his job.

A safe Lieberal seat with a 12% comfort zone, nobody thought that it would be in danger. Yet it is. So hated is Abbott that the 12% has evaporated to nothing with both parties now neck and neck.

Abbott admits Royal Commission aimed at the Labor party

Talk about putting your foot in your mouth, but that's nothing new for Abbott. Here, posted on Abbott's own website, is an admission by him that the Royal Commission in to union corruption is political. Aimed at the Labor party. Repulsive and disgusting.

The import thing is that the Royal Commission will continue. We have seen an abundance of evidence of rorts, rackets and rip-offs inside the union movement. We have seen an abundance of evidence of union officials ripping off workers to help themselves, ripping off workers to push their own personal barrows inside the Labor Party. We’ve seen a number of arrests and pending prosecutions arising out of evidence to the Royal Commission. This is an absolutely vital Royal Commission. Even someone of the stature of Martin Ferguson says this is an important part of cleaning up the union movement, an important part of cleaning up the Labor Party. So it must and will go on regardless of any decision that Dyson Heydon AC QC makes in the next day or so. more

SSJoe's unaffordable tax cuts

Treasurer SSjoe has gone all eleventy again. I dunno WTF happened to the Budget Emergency where even welfare people like me were supposed to pay to see a doctor, but evidently political considerations have taken to the forefront of Team Abbott's dying gov. 

With the Canning by election imminent, and the dire national polls, Abbott is now desperate to save his job. So SSJoe has come out with a big Lieberal strategy.

Give the peasants back their bracket creep! And say it's a tax cut! Which is all political spin of course. But he also wants to give the rich tax cuts proclaiming that they need to be given, least the wonderful rich people who pay fuck all tax anyway may flee the country for greener pastures.

All I could say to that is fuck off then. Take your tax dodging asshole outa here. But no, SSJoe is all concerned about these poor dear people so hard done by. Turns out though in the midst of a Budget Emergency tax cuts are looking positively like political ass saving.

Abbott warmonger denies pressuring Obama to bomb Syria

Good grief. Abbott's latest grand plan is to boost his abysmal polling war a Death Cult war on Syria. Her account of the two encounters sounds positively chilling. I mean there nothing wrong with a bit of roughness in sex, but when the partner experiences fear as she describes it's seriously wrong. 

Josh sounds like a real creep. Like a sexual predator.

This is truly un-fuckin-believable. This county clerk has taken a stand against issuing marriage licences to gays. Of course he still expects to keep his job even though because of his religion he is demonstrably incapable of doing it. 

Here he gives a driveling rave about god, freedom, fighting for it, and laying down his life in the fight against gay marriage.
