Lieberals fossilise their marriage views

In yet another show of how completely out of step the Lieberals are with main stream Australia, they are digging in over marriage equality. They're not even worrying actually WTF main stream Australia thinks, they're just worrying about the Lieberal party and what it thinks. 

Some are even saying Abbott, the most far right extremist PM I've ever seen in this country, isn't far right enough I guess if he lets marriage equality go through. This must be the born-to-rule mentality that so many Lieberals possess, and that it doesn't matter what the population thinks, just the rulers of said population. In any case, it's looney tunes land.

Conservative government MPs say same-sex marriage is not inevitable and have warned Tony Abbott that he faces a savage internal backlash over the issue, likening it to the devastating split over the ETS which cost Malcolm Turnbull the Liberal leadership in 2009. 

Several right wing Parliamentarians have told Fairfax Media they believe they have the numbers to oppose a free vote, a move that if successful would greatly decrease the chances of the bill passing the lower house. "If you put this to a ballot in the party room, this does not get up," confided one MP. more

If the party room knocks this back again... If the Lieberals single handedly, again, torpedo gay marriage in Australia just because they think they know better than the great majority of Australians, it will solidify in the minds of all those Australians who consider the Lieberals to be fossil fools from the past, that they in fact are. 

What's more, they'll have to take their fossilisation to the next election, presenting themselves to the people of Australia the fools they are.

Update: Concetta Fierravanti's email inbox is apparently more reliable than a decade of polling. She says the majority of Australians support marriage being just for straight people. An astounding bit out out of touch-ness.

People have been looking at my "First Post" I've noticed :)

How interesting. I couldn't even remember what I wrote. Way back in 2010. Just noticed people have been reading it and it's gone into the top ten read list in the sidebar for the last week. 

Makes one ponder. Has been a lot of water under the bridge since then, and not a lot of it particularly good either. But hey, I'm still here alive and kicking, nearly six and a half years after being diagnosed. 

A lot of the past posts I can't read. They're too painful. Was a big reason I started the blog to be able to unload emotionally and mentally with what was happening, put it in a space where I knew it was, and move on. Writing does help to get through things, for me anyway.

14% of Australians below poverty line - OECD

The existence of poverty across many nations isn't a surprise. What is a surprise is that after 24 years of uninterrupted growth Australia has 14% of it's population left behind below the poverty line.

Even more surprising one would think, is to have a gov now that's intent on increasing the poverty figures, or punishing people for being poor. 

Australian house prices causing "social harm" - economist

No surprises for guessing that the Abbott gov's assistant treasurer to SSJoe is denying that there's a housing bubble in Sydney. Don't worry that the only thing people are using their home equity to borrow money for is to invest in more property. SSJoe himself is a property investor so he's certainly not going to talk down property, any more than gormless Abbott. So whatever the gov says is typically just more spin and lies. Like I said, no surprises there.

Also, as anyone who's in the private rental market in Sydney or trying to buy a dwelling, there's no surprise with the news that leading economist Saul Eslake with the Bank of America Merrill Lynch people disagrees with the PM, SSJoe, and SSJoe's trusty offsider. In fact he goes so far as to say not only are inflated prices a scary bogyman for the economy, but that they're causing social harm amongst the Australian communities.

"I would say they are causing social harm because they are widening the gap between those who have houses and those who don't, and freezing younger generations out of home ownership," he told Fairfax Media. more

No shit Sherlock. You have to be a leading economist to come up that that most basic logic?

It's simple arithmetic. The more money people have to pay for housing then the less money is going into the economy. People can't buy stuff, the economy slows. It's not rocket science. And eventually there must surely come a point where people simply say they're not going to pay such an exorbitant price for a house. If enough people say that then boom turns to bust. Tulips anyone?

The later part of the 20th century saw its share of odd financial bubbles. There was the real-estate bubble, the stock market bubbles, and the dot com bubble, just to name a few. In each instance of price inflation people paid exorbitant amounts for things that shouldn't have been worth anything like the going price. And each time people stood around afterwards and said “What were we thinking?”

One has to believe that the same thought occurred to the Dutch in the 17th century when they settled down after their bout with tulipomania, wherein the humble tulip bulb began to sell for prices to make New York Realtors blanch. more

BTW, in possibly an indication of how ridiculous this is all getting, we got another letter from Housing last week about the complaint I put in to them. It must have kept going after the state election. I was also rung a few days before that for an interview about our current situation. 

Actually the lady was really good on the phone and well understood what I was saying. Pretty much there was nothing Housing could do without the politicians changing the policies of the dept of housing. 

Specifically the policy that says when people live in a dept of housing property then the affordable rent is considered to be no more than 30% of their income. Yet if people are living in the private market trying to get onto the priority dept of housing list, then the dept of housing has a magic formula to declare that paying more than 50% of your income in rent is "affordable". 

As was noted in the Housing letter sent to us last week. As David has gone onto the Carers Payment and all then the $360wk deemed as "affordable" rent was increased to $415wk. Well over 50% of our income. Yep, the Dept of Housing NSW says that us both on a pension can afford that. 

This is housing insanity. 

 

Anxiety and fear problems

Have been feeling rather badly the last few days. Anxiety to the point of almost a dark cloud of fear hanging around everywhere. 

I have to keep reminding myself that just because I feel this way, or feel such fear, that it's not a prediction or indication of something coming in the future. It's simply my human mind acting on excessive anxiety. Is like a darkness, a feeling that something bad is going to happen.

The anxiety is likely caused by the impending court case next week with psycho Phillip. The anxiety may not even be about Phillip himself, but just the act itself of having to go to court. I've had some pretty horrifying experiences over the decades with court, a lot of it more other people's fault than mine. I'm guessing I have now a natural aversion to, even dread of, attending any sort of court case that I'm involved in.

There is the fact too that this involves a particularly bad experience, being David's bashing by my fucked in the head nephew who I've not seen in donkey's years. Even more so with my even more fucked in the head brother who thought he was going to get sex off David in our own home.... I mean I'm so disgusted with both of them I don't even want to lay eyes on them, let alone have to be in the same courtroom with them.

I thought about strategies to reduce the anxiety of court. Perhaps dressing more casually than I otherwise would. I'm not the guilty one trying desperately to appear like a pillar of society. In this case David and I are the victims.

Yes folks, the adults are in charge :s The long term unemployed are now one quarter of all those out of work. "Long term unemployed" is defined as those who haven't worked for more than a year. I'd assume it would be those on Newstart and not those defined as disabled and the like.

Court date near for psycho nephew

It's the week after this coming one, finally we can get it all over with.

I was going to sit in a side room except for the hearing but think I'll just go in now. I honestly don't want to see the prick in any way shape or form, but my head has a habit of making myself numb in situations of stress like that. 

David is bottling things up and having the odd explosive outlet about it all. He's worried about having to be a part of a rift in my family. Cripes, I told him not to worry and that whatever happened to Phillip he deserved it. I couldn't believe David was blaming himself for what happened.

Of course neither of us want to have to go back there to the night of the bashing. I've a distinct feeling psycho Phillip doesn't want to either :) Fuck he must be shitting himself presently. Hopefully he'll just roll over and change his plea to guilty. He's likely still picking his chin up off the floor after reading the brief.

When an Aussie bloke doesn't like sport :)

I've had sort of like this happen a few times in the past. It seems to be a thing in the straight male world in Australia. 

The line goes "So what team do you follow?" speaking of rugby league, you know those trumped up steroid drug taking blokes who many of them appear to think they're god's gift to the world. 

My reply "I don't follow footy".

Stunned disbelieving look.....

One time I even had a bloke say that I wouldn't make any friends or be able to have discussions with blokes if I didn't follow footy :s
