Social media goes bananas - 17th gay marriage bill since 2004 scuttled again
This marriage equality bill will be the 17th to come before the federal parliament in Canberra since 2004. That doesn't include State bills. Social media is now flabbergasted at dinosaur Abbott's continued and stubborn last century opposition to gay marriage. In arguably the most gay friendly country in the world, it is shameful and astonishing that politicians have blocked gay marriage every step of the way.
Social media understandably is entirely over Abbott.
The federal government's handling of the same-sex marriage issue has driven strong activity in the Twitter sphere over the past 24 hours.
More than 8,500 tweets have raced through the social media platform since early Tuesday, with commentary exploding at around 10pm AEST as Prime Minister Tony Abbott held a press conference to say coalition MPs wouldn't be allowed a conscience vote on the issue. more
