NZ's two years of marriage equality - the sky hasn't fallen

You'd think listening to the doomsayers in the US and Australia that by now the shaky isl's of New Zealand would have at least had another Christchurch like earthquake, or it's society collapse into a heap of sinful debauchery. But not at all. Life has gone on like it always has and there has been no wrath of any god.

In fact the mood appears to be like "meh" what was all the fuss about? The crazy christian's fears haven't come to any sort of fruition at all, and society has been enriched by diversity.

This sort of acceptance and love is what we're fighting for now in Australia. Team Abbott will not be remembered well for standing in the way of societal progress such as this. I note also that the Key gov of New Zealand is a very conservative one.
Today marks two years since marriage equality came into effect in New Zealand. Despite all the loony claims about the impact it would have on our nation, gay people here are still ticking along.

Some are happily married, others happily or unhappily separated, and plenty are unwed, depending on whether matrimony is for them – or they have found someone they actually want to marry.

Really, after all the fire and brimstone and cuckoo predictions of the great ‘gay marriage’ debate, little has changed. I still love my wife as much as I would if we weren’t married. And I am fairly certain our union has had absolutely no impact on anyone else’s marriage. How could it!?

In fact, pretty much nobody bats an eyelid when I mention ‘my wife’. Nobody with any intelligence or heart in this country cares. If anything, people are just generally interested and have a few questions, especially now we’re having a baby. They just want to learn and understand.

We all have our boring bigots, but they’re a waning breed. They had their moment in the sun. Some are still, now and then, banging on about it, but nobody really listens to their weird criticisms of the lives of people who couldn’t care less.

So don’t worry Australia, once it’s all done and dusted, the media will stop giving them much attention. more
