We can give India electricity from coal, stop holding up mining - Abbott

Once again Abbott gets on national telly and preaches a lie; this time that holding up the Adani mine in the Great Barrier Reef is "holding up 100,000 people in India". This is a lie, as I referred to the other day from this article, where the World Bank has recently said that coal power cannot cure poverty.

So what Abbott is saying is directly opposed to what the World Bank is saying, and nothing more than energy industry propaganda. What else would you expect from Abbott though?
But Kyte added: “If they all had access to coal-fired power tomorrow their respiratory illness rates would go up, etc, etc … We need to extend access to energy to the poor and we need to do it the cleanest way possible because the social costs of coal are uncounted and damaging, just as the global emissions count is damaging as well.”

The World Bank sees climate change as a driver of poverty, threatening decades of development. more
