He got a letter yesterday from the New South Wales Justice Victims Services. Apart from the one off compensation monetary amount to be paid to him (yet to be decided by a magistrate) he has also been given 10 free counseling seasons by a person qualified in dealing with victims of crime. He's been given a local number to ring and arrange the first appt.
I must admit neither of us have ever heard of this before. It's pretty recent legislation too, from 2013. It was only through the social worker that she sent us a link and said to apply promptly as there's a time limit on making an application. Otherwise we'd have had no idea.
It again indicates the seriousness of the assault. I dunno what sort of punishment the psycho nephew will get for it, but it should be remembered that the assualt was so severe that his life was put in danger.
