Labor vows to fight Abbott's new GP tax - senate to strike it down

Although it's coming into effect shortly, the senate has the power to disallow this adjustment by the gov to the Medicare regulations. Labor is the first to categorically say that they're opposed to it and will fight against it. My assumption is that the Greens will follow. Not looking too good Tone.

Of course it's absurd. What about cancelling the F-35 lemons then? Removing coal subsidies? Making corporations pay tax? *pfffft*

Update: the senate has the numbers now to strike it down. The gov changes are dead in the water.
A $20 cut in the rebates paid to doctors for consultations that are 10 minutes or less faces the axe, with three crossbench senators indicating they will vote to scrap the government's changes. If Labor joins the Greens in also opposing the rebate cut, just one more crossbencher would be needed to unwind the policy when the Senate resumes in February. more
The opposition - combined with the Greens and four crossbench senators, including Nick Xenophon, Glenn Lazarus, Ricky Muir and Jacqui Lambie - will form the 39 votes needed to strike down the change. more
