Mr Turnbull now faces the task of clearing sufficient parliamentary time in the last sitting fortnight of the year, to design, debate, and pass a private member's bill - given his oft-made prediction that the parliament would reflect the survey outcome.So why did they put us through all of this then? The survey is now at around 75% return rate, a huge participation rate for something that wasn't compulsory, as voting normally is in Australia. Polling suggest 6 to 4 in favour.
