Emergency Dept treatment - ID head gets involved

I got a very prompt reply from the head of Infectious Diseases at the hospital, after I forwarded David's email complaint to him about the negligent way the nurses treated me the other night (after I did a half somersault into the edge of the toilet from the bath). He hardly ever replies straight away to emails unless they're important. Sometimes he's away on conferences or just too busy to check them.

He informed me he'd follow up the complaint made by David and sent to the main hospital feedback email to make sure it was dealt with. I could almost hear him seething through the lines of the email. Well well well..... I know too that he has a bit of a reputation at the hospital for being, shall I say, direct.

Those nurses that night had no idea just who they were dealing with. I have a long history at that hospital, not least of which was the kidney failure and dialysis. Even to find out what was going on initially (what had caused their failure?) was a feat in itself, let alone the ongoing treatment afterwards. Very early on the top specialists best in their field got involved, and still are today with my care. The kidney specialists were the one's in suits who turned up that first night to give me a double kidney biopsy in Emergency. None of them will be happy at all about what happened the other night in that same Emergency dept.

I replied thanking him for doing so, and also said that in hindsight I was pretty bloody annoyed about it myself. To leave someone with a bad head injury unchecked for 3 hours.... I could have died if my brain started swelling. I used the term it was almost criminal negligence.

My view is that it was HIV stigma. In which case it's an issue that needs to be addressed there. I'm glad David stood up and made a fuss now. If these nurses don't get booted into line, who else are they going to do the exact same thing to?
