Newman to fund Abbott point - GetUp goes bananas

"Lunacy" is the word GetUp uses. Premier of Queensland Campbell Newman, his coal economy self destructing, cannot see past coal as the only investment of the future. It's no secret that coal is dying spectacularly, prices in free fall, investors and whole countries going renewable energy. That includes both China, the US and India. Any sane investor wouldn't throw his money away like that, on a dying industry of the past.

So guess who is going to fund Adani to rip the Reef to bits? The Campbell Newman gov itself; or should I say Australian taxpayers. Outrageous!

GetUp is now asking for crowd funding to enter the fray in the QLD state election early next year. They want to run adds up there and all. It's time for all caring Australians to mobilise against the QLD Lieberals for the sake of the future of the Great Barrier Reef. Our democracy may well be the only thing standing in the way of the reef and the dredging.

This could very well spell the end of the Newman gov. I predict after Victoria boots the Lieberals out of office shortly, there will be a sense of change in the air...

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has announced he will privatise public assets to help pay for Adani's Abbot Point and Carmichael coal mines. 

Taxpayer money that would otherwise be spent on public infrastructure like schools and hospitals will now be used as corporate welfare for a mining billionaire. 

This is a new low for Newman. Newman has been unable to find private investors willing to back Adani's coal projects in the Galilee Basin. That's because investors can see that this coal mine is a lame duck that will be an economic and ecological disaster. The price of coal is falling and these projects will damage the Great Barrier Reef. Most sane people want nothing to do with it. 

So now, in an act of sheer arrogrant lunacy, Newman will use taxpayer money to fund a risky project that might never happen at all. He's destroying the reef on spec. 

Campbell Newman is putting his friends in the mining industry before the Reef, before our climate and before the Australians he pretends to represent. Don't let him.
