My DSP is under attack by Abbott's budget

Oh whatever...... Myself I guess am a core DSP'er? You know, like Abbott's core promises that are scripted and not off the cuff? I've not the slightest doubt that my conditions would trounce any new big all guns firing clampdown on the Disability Support Pension. Like I've said, even with the new points test introduced by Labor I virtually had the DSP thrown at me as I was so extremely eligible for it. I was amazed that even with the new rules, that apparently I'd been trying to work when according to the DSP conditions I shouldn't have been as I was disabled. But you know, strong work ethics die hard.....

So now we have the gov signalling some big clampdown on the DSP. Yeah fine whatever. Do I really have to be involved in this shit? Surely I don't have to go through some bullshit, time consuming, visit to some independent doctor via Centrelink to confirm what my doctor and specialists have already told them? Do they think my doctors and top specialists at the biggest hospital in Australia aren't good enough to judge my condition? Do they think that some fly in Centrelink doctor will see through their supposed charade; a charade invented by this team of doctors and specialists just because they wanted to help me out to rip off the Australian gov? Do they fuckin think that I would go from earning around $55,000 or more a year to $20,000 or so on the DSP, just for the hell of ripping off the gov? What an obscene suggestion.

I'm completely disgusted, and I'm fuckin saying so. How dare this gov challenge my illness. How dare this gov challenge my integrity. How dare this gov suggests that I'm lying to them just to beg for a few $ to survive. How dare this gov target me instead of the rich who pay fuck all tax.

How fuckin dare they. I've worked full time for 30 years, paid all my taxes even when it was unaffordable to do so, even when those taxes of $200 or so a week hurt like fuck with a disabled wife and a daughter in school. I had no choice, there's no way us PAYE taxpayers can get out of it as the company takes the tax before you're paid. Unlike the rich assholes who pay tax whenever they feel like it. How dare this gov takes my 30 years of tax effort and questions me if I'm eligible for the few $ I get now off them when without a doubt I am.  I fuckin hate this gov. I hate Abbott and his band of Catholic front bench fuckwits. Yes, I know hate is a strong word. In this case it fits.

OK, got that off my chest. Just to be fair, the gov is targeting the peripherals of those on the DSP. But you know, if they get away with this then where does it stop? And why target the most vulnerable? Why not go after the corporate subsidies if they want to cut things. Why us?

What would workers think about a gov setting out deliberately to reduce their income? What would Rinehart and Murdock say if he attempted that with those two? One rule for the moguls and another for the sick?

Under Mr Andrews' mooted change, disability pensioners who were assessed by their family doctors – before Labor tightened the system in 2011 – would be re-examined by medical experts at the Department of Human Services.

The minister is also considering giving a fixed higher payment for the most disabled pensioners, with lower payments for people with less restrictive disabilities, who might be able to work part time.

The aim, he says, is to catch as many people as possible before they become entrenched on the disability pension.

Disability Discrimination Commissioner Graeme Innes said the Abbott government was "punishing some of the most vulnerable people in society" by tightening checks on the disability pension.

Regarding the minister’s idea to reassess recipients, Mr Innes said: "To effectively move the test back a few years, it just seems a cruel way of penalising people who’ve been in receipt of a benefit.

"Introducing a quarterly or six-monthly check is just adding more complexity both for the Centrelink system and for people with disabilities," he said. Read more
