"Oblivious" - Abbott

What a fuckin bare faced lie. He can't honestly expect people to believe this:
Mr Abbott also defended a phrase he used during the fiery debate.

Yesterday, he said the government under Ms Gillard should have already ''died of shame'', echoing a much-condemned line used by broadcaster Alan Jones when referring to the Prime Minister's late father.

The Opposition Leader said today it was a reference to the government and ''no one else''.

''This phrase has been used by me on at least 17 separate occasions before yesterday, including in a national address,'' he said, adding the last thing he wanted to do was cause offence to anyone.

''But I was completely oblivious, when I was making that speech, to comments that other people might have made, which were very different and have been universally condemned, including by me.''
Mr Abbott said it was time for government MPs to ''stop hyperventilating'' about the broadcaster's comment - for which, he said, Jones and 2GB had apologised and paid a high price. more
Oh fuckin pleeeaaase.... And he's got the nerve to call Gillard a liar?

So he denies all knowledge, was "oblivious" in fact, to a news story in the national media for a while now and resulting in Jones coping it. Is he also oblivious to condemning his comment?

It's just another example of how this man doesn't take any responsibility for what he does. He'll stand in front of signs calling the PM a bitch and a witch, but that's not his fault. He's channel Jones and quote him in parliament, but that's not his fault. Fucks sake he'd be better off saying he made a big mistake and apologising to the PM. I reckon it takes a bigger man to admit he's wrong than to lie and pretend he's not.

Christine Milne of the Greens disagrees with him (BTW yes I'm a Greens voter).
Today, Senator Milne backed Ms Gillard's impassioned speech against Mr Abbott's misogyny and sexism, particularly in relation to his comment about the government dying "of shame".

"[It was] just an outrageous provocation," Senator Milne said.

"I can understand why the Prime Minister thought, 'Right enough is enough here.' " Read more
