"daveonwheels" a hoax

I just don't understand how anyone could do this. I've only been reading about it today and got duped by it this morning, but just in that short time I feel pretty hurt by what this guy has done. As somebody writing genuinely, and knowing what it's like to be dealing with illness, this is like a slap in the face.

This guy Dave sucked in people all over the place. Over years. He blogged from a wheelchair. For years. And recently "died", with his sister posting his last post on his blog.

I read the entire farewell in a news article this morning. Now I find out the entire thing was a hoax.

It's all at The Chive.

David Rose had been on Facebook since 2007, he’d been on Twitter since 2010, sometimes Tweeting a dozen times/day. And his sister Nichole had been on Twitter for some time while as well. They Tweeted back and forth quite often in perfect concert. Sometimes Nichole was late to pick up Dave from his physical therapy and would text him to sit tight. They’d go to the mall together, Tweeting back and forth. If this story was indeed fake, it was one of the most sophisticated ruses we’ve ever seen; this took years to cultivate. It would require somebody willing to create multiple false identities. Somebody with not only intelligence, but someone with deep knowledge of cerebral palsy, ASL, and the Newport Beach area. Somebody very, very sick. Read more
It's astonishing to me that someone could be that sick in the head to do that.
