Health warning for Australians
Say you have two kids and a partner. You live from week to week on your pays. Suddenly out of the blue the lot of you get a terrible case of food poisoning. You all need to go see the family doctor ASAP. Thing is it's the day before pay day and you don't have the Abbott $20 GP tax that it will cost for the four of you to see the doctor. What do you do? Your kids are so bad you consider going to the local hospital, but then you find they have the new Abbott GP tax as well. Do you wait until you get paid? Risking the worsening of the illness?
I know the gov's just floating the idea in the media at the moment, but I don't reckon they have a clue as to the extent of community opposition to a GP tax. If he brings it in many people will curse Abbott when they have to fork it out just to see a doctor.
I dunno why they're even going this way with it. If Medicare is coming up short of money then simply raise the Medicare levy a bit (not that that would be any more popular). Going after the sick and getting them to cough up $5 makes no sense, even financially. Imagine the cost of implementing and administrating thousands of $5 payments across the country. It's absurd.
Of course the reason excuse they want to do this is because evidently us sick people are a bunch of hypochondriacs who see the doctor too much, and in doing so are sending the country broke, or some bullshit like that. What an insult. Fuck, I have health issues but I see the doctor as little as I can. I'm sick to death of doctor visits.
