Discussed quite a bit at the psychologists yesterday. We were talking about anxiety and I was relating how the BGF workshop had been a big help in me addressing my anxiety.
One of the aspects of it is living in the moment. Or more precisely, not to think of the future imagining what might happen, or the past and what might have been, but simply being aware of the present and addressing the present.
That may sound a bit weird, but it really makes sense. The future never turns out like you imagine it will, so what's the purpose of stressing about something that won't be as you thought it would? And what's the point of stressing about the past when nothing can ever change what's happened? In essence, it's about living not with your head in the future or the past, but in the now.
There's simple ways to get back to reality, so to speak, if you start being anxious about the future. Things as mundane as being conscious of where you are in your present surroundings, noticing things around you like sounds or objects. Even just being aware of your own body and what you're doing. In effect your attention is taken up with these things in the now, rather than imaginings about the future.
This is certainly a help to me.
