Gov caves on 40 job applications - Newstart recipients

Another humiliating backdown from the Abbott gov, this time over it's bullshit requirement to make everyone on Newstart apply for 40 jobs a month. Including people in country towns where there's little work. Needless to say small business owners in those town where unhappy at the thought of all that extra work replying to letters and all.
The Federal Government is abandoning a draft plan to require unemployed people to apply for 40 jobs a month in order to keep receiving the dole.

It prompted a backlash from welfare groups and the business sector, which both warned small businesses would be inundated with job applications.

Employment Minister Eric Abetz had previously acknowledged that there would be opposition to the plan, and that 40 was an ambitious figure. "We have listened to the community feedback, we do understand that for business this would be a burden," he told AM. more
