Housing affordability crisis - Greens want to hear from you

The Greens say they're going to be campaigning hard on the plight of renters in Australia, particularly in the capital cities. Is no secret for renters in Sydney that rents are way out of control. The role of gov is to provide housing for the people, using whatever mechanisms available. In Australia however, it does appear that vested property interests are pulling the gov strings, not the least of that being the NSW Lieberals. Not that the NSW Labor gov was any better.

So the gov's of Australia have failed the most basic function of governance; to provide affordable housing for the people it serves. You know, shelter. A roof, shower, god forbid even the internet. Such basic survival stuff like that, and the gov has failed. The system has failed.

What have we got now then? Rents out of control whilst real estate moguls rake in the $.

So the Greens have set up a little survey thing asking renters to tell their situations. You can follow the link to the survey here
With escalating rents and the shortfall in available rental properties, more and more renters are competing with each other for what can be substandard, over-priced, insecure or inappropriate housing.

Despite renters making up one third of all Australian households, no-one is standing up for renters — until now.

As we prepare to launch the Greens Renters Rights package, we want to hear from YOU. Please take a few minutes to complete the Rental Health Check survey here.
