Saved by the Super, again :)

We were getting rather tight with money this month. I'd put away money for the gas bill but it came in at $50 more than expected for the three months. Also the phone bill was about $50 more than expected for the month. We were looking at very lean times for the next three weeks in the face of that.

However I'd put in another application to Australian Super to get the maximum of $10,000 out under financial hardship grounds. I wanted to pay back my sister some of the money she'd lent us when David was on the ridiculous Newstarve, and have some money in the bank for emergencies. You have to have been on Centrelink for at least 6 months and still be on it when applying, and to show you can't reasonably pay living expenses. A pretty easy thing to do with Sydney rents. Plus I have no assets or any other investments. I mailed the application to them in Melbourne on Tuesday last week and the money went into my account the following Monday.

They're very good Australian Super you know. David was with HESTA and some months ago he applied to them to get the same thing but they knocked him back the bastards. At that time we really needed the money too. So he rolled it all over to Australian Super and applied to them instead. Not the slightest problem at all. So if you're going to apply to HESTA you may well get knocked back.

The money you get from the $10,000 is taxed, so you get $7,800 only, however you can get the other $2,200 back in your tax come July. Also, I'm bankrupt but money from Super can't be touched by the people you owed money to. You can do this once ever 12 months.

It's a way to get money out of your Super early, instead of going through starvation.
