Cross bencher in the senate Ricky Muir is very very pissed off with Turnbull holding a gun to his head. Ironically it appears that calling a Double Dissolution election won't guarantee the non-election of crossbenchers. This is a desperate move by Turnbull that could backfire spectacularly.
You know there's echoes of the election in New Zealand many years ago, where Muldoon called an early election citing lack of support to get his legislation through. He wanted more yes men in parliament. However it went down like a lead balloon with the electorate and backfired on him. His National party lost dismally and Labour's David Lange was swept into power with a huge majority.
We shall see where this one goes with Turnbull. IMO though, the early signs aren't looking good.
Double dissolution a government move to "rid themselves of a democratic senate" says Senator @Ricky_Muir. #auspol https://t.co/hhVPGwynwH— ABC News (@abcnews) March 21, 2016
