Lieberals aren't happy that the Safe Schools review has come back saying it's safe. Now they want some full on review as they have called this review a "stitch up", that would find the same thing anyway. They just won't be happy unless the whole program is defunded.
Opposition leader Bill Shorten is a defender of Safe Schools and emphasised his support this morning. “The idea behind Safe Schools is that children who are grappling with their sexuality, who are dealing with the toughest issues teenagers can in terms of bullying, that Safe Schools would provide resources for schools to be able to help students,” he said. “It’s a voluntary scheme. Schools opt in to the Safe Schools program.
“Who is Mr Turnbull or indeed the sort of the tin foil hat brigade in the Liberal right wing in the senate to start second guessing school councils, school principals and the administrators?”
Liberal MP Warren Entsch has also spoken up in support of Safe Schools this morning. “Some of the hysteria around this shows a clear lack of understanding about the issues some of our children face,” he said.
“This is not about teaching or coaching kids to be gay. There are schools where children need support and they need resources to help them. There is nothing in the program that is compulsory.”
Greens Senator Robert Simms agrees. “This review was pointless to begin with and now we’ve got coalition MPs throwing a tantrum because they don’t like the outcome.”
“The homophobic MPs in the government need to accept their biases and stop using the lives of LGBTI young people to push their agenda,” added fellow Greens Senator Janet Rice.
“The government could review the Safe Schools Coalition until the cows come home and it will still come back with what we already know – Safe Schools works.” Same Same
