An historic moment in Australian history. The senate has passed Dean Smiths marriage equality bill without amendments. It now goes to the lower house next week to be voted on there, in what will be finally the conscience vote they could have had ages ago.
Frustratingly, after the last federal election it was the first federal parliament in Australia to have the numbers to pass marriage equality. Yet the RWNJ's in the gov refused to let go of Turnbulls balls and capitulate to a free parliamentary conscience vote. Even though the Howard gov had 5 of them in it's 11 years. LGBT won't forget the continual blocking and stalling on this over years. This moment has happened despite the gov, not because of it. WE own it.

Today was a brilliant day — and one that took a lot of work, many years, and the activism of thousands of everyday Australians. We did this together! We hope everyone is smiling tonight #MarriageEquality pic.twitter.com/Iz40gyiJh6— AU Marriage Equality (@AMEquality) November 29, 2017
