More removed from Manus Island

First, this is GetUp's video from the Inverbrackie jail where they interviewed (and covertly recorded) asylum seekers who'd come from Manus Island.

Today GetUp has recieved word that "42 asylum seekers, including the remaining twelve children on Manus and their families, have been transferred to Christmas Island". Certainly very good news as far as human rights and Australia is concerned. It's interesting that some of them address the very lies that are feed through the media about them. For example, one of them says "We will pay the tax", talking about the notion going around Australian racist rednecks that successful asylum applications live off the gov and pay no tax. I wonder what these people think of us Australians knowing the sort of bullshit that many of us are thinking of them?

Further to this, in the GetUp email they mention how this whole thing has descended into a political warfare in Canberra instead of actually fulfilling our human rights obligations:
Unfortunately, the asylum seeker debate has been hijacked by those exploiting a humanitarian issue for political gain. In the past few days we've heard ridiculous language like "border security" and "economic migrants" used when discussing asylum seekers, this behaviour represents a serious blight on Australia's reputation.
