Amnesty to fax petition daily to PM

Rudd's new xenophobia asylum seeker policy is starting to take affect, with 79 asylum seekers being removed from the Christmas Island jail to the tent village jail on Manus Island in New Guinea. The same Manus Island that there's been so much controversy about forcing the gov to remove the children from there.

Amnesty Int. is using the election campaign to fax a list of people to Kevin Rudd every day until the election on Sept 7th. The list will be updated daily to include more people that have signed. The message reads:
To: Prime Minister Kevin Rudd

Dear Prime Minister,

We write to express our disappointment in that Australia recently announced that it will not process or settle claims for asylum in Australia in cases where an asylum seeker arrived by boat.

This policy will not stop desperate people fleeing for their lives - it will make those lives more miserable. We write to urge you that:

No asylum seekers arriving to Australia by boat be sent to Papua New Guinea.

Australian authorities ensure that all asylum seekers arriving into Australian territory, by whatever means, and wherever, be given access to a full and efficient refugee status determination process in Australia that is consistent with Australia's human rights and refugee law obligations

Australia respects and complies with obligations under the Refugee Convention and international law in its treatment of asylum seekers and refugees.

Asylum seekers arriving in Australia should be treated fairly and with compassion. sign here
