I rarely comment on hate crimes against gays overseas as, well, they're overseas. We get enough of them in Australia, albeit seemingly less of late. I've noticed David who's been in the gay scene all his life is very cautious when out and about, whereas I'm more like "fuck them, they have no right to treat me like that" and verbal them back. I guess that comes from being in the straight world for so long, white working class male with white wife and daughter, rather a blessed group I suspect and suffering nothing like the violence the gay community has.
This occasion was very different though. The bloke massively clobbered a gay couple with a heavy wooden chair. He could easily have killed them from the look of it on the video that went viral worldwide.
Turns out this bloke is a real piece of work. A bloke with a long criminal record in fact, who likely has fled the state.
El-Amin has 18 prior arrests spanning back to 1993, police said. All but two of those incidents took place out of state.Good grief. Not too smart is he. All those crimes and he ends up on YouTube committing a serious assault that goes viral. Certainly a great many anger management problems this one.
He has arrests on record in Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Alabama and New Jersey for assault, shop lifting, drug possession, credit card fraud, forgery and possession of stolen property.
El-Amin's two most recent arrests took place in New York state in April 2012 and October 2013, but both cases were sealed, police said. more
The cops say he's a "career criminal". Um, not very good at his career I would suggest.
