Snake-handling preacher dies of snake bite

I mean, it's things like this that show the fuckin stupidity of religion. There's a lot of crazy news shit that comes out of the US; between their insane ("you're going to jail") cops and their loony tunes evangelicals, you could devote an entire blog to the shit. This however is exceptionally out there and insanely loony even in the context of the usual insane loony US stuff.

Meet Jamie Coots:

He's a well known snake handling preacher (or was) in the US, which even if he didn't do anything else is really far out there in itself. But in this case there's more.....

For anyone who may not be aware of snake handling Pentecostals, they believe that they can handle poisonous snakes and not be harmed as god will protect them. I've never been to one but I know they have snake handling services in such churches where people handle these things as some kind of statement about god's power, or their faith in god's power, or a bit of both. Something like that.

So I guess it was in just such a service that he got bitten by a snake. The cops visited him at his home and called an ambulance wanting him to go to the hospital. But of course he wouldn't go as god was going to protect him and that. The police visited again an hour later to check on the idiot.

Yep, you guessed it, he had carked it.
Jamie Coots, a preacher known for snake handling, as well as being the focus of a reality TV show, died Saturday after being bitten by a snake.

According to the Middlesboro Police Department, emergency crews responded to reports of a possible snakebite victim at a church on Evans Drive around 8:30 p.m., but say the victim had already left the scene by the time they arrived.

Police say they found Coots at his home with an apparent snakebite to his hand. Officials say EMS responders explained the dangers of not treating the wound, but that Coots still refused to be transferred.

Police and EMS returned to the scene an hour later to find Coots dead. more
This guy deserves a Darwin award FFS!
