Gov subsidies vs Abbott lies

Here we have an example of Abbott's ideology completely at odds with basic facts. Here we have our PM acting according to his ideological bullshit instead of the facts glaring us in the face. His whole argument of small gov and gov not needing to be involved in industry is blown out of the water. By the facts. But don't let the facts get in the way of an ideological gov driven by some nutty notion that being a Christian means being an ultra-conservative capitalist maniac.

OK, here's Abbott's ideological quote:
‘In the end, no government has ever subsidised its way to prosperity’. Prime Minister, Tony Abbott.
Hmmm. Sounds very US tea-party type bullshit to me. Perhaps we should check the actual facts before becoming sheeple and following Abbott's preaching like dumb lemmings. You can read the whole thing here, but this is the findings from the Facts Fightback site:
The finding: Many governments have used industry development strategies, including subsidies, for specific industries and have successfully developed their economies to the extent that the World Bank in 1993 was able to refer to the ‘Asian miracle’.
Discussion of evidence: The statement that “no government has ever subsidised its way to prosperity” is inconsistent and can be refuted with a single example. History provides numerous examples of government fostering economic development by assisting industry, including using subsidies. Indeed, it is difficult to find an example of a successful economy which did not have some government strategy to deliberately foster industry development. more
After 30 years of Reaganomics overtaking the western world, and after it all ending in tears with the GFC, to argue for the continuation of this failed system is entirely illogical. Blind Freddy can see it doesn't work. The only logical conclusion to come to is that the gov is in the hands of the rich and preaching to us mere minions the strategy to keep the system going to make the gov's rich mates richer.
