Cut welfare to ice addicts - Morrison

Suddenly it seems that ice users have become state enemy number one. We had the Lieberal candidate in Canning saying he would taser them, and now that asshole Morrison has entered the fray.

Team Abbott's Morrison appears to think that as social services minister the job includes using welfare payments to club people over the head with ignorant morality. His answer to those on welfare addicted to ice isn't to use a considered and rational approach to help them. No, he wants to punish them; cut off their welfare payments.

What a dumb fuck. OK so Mr "ice addict". It's possible he/she got into the whole drug scene as work is getting harder and harder to come by and the dole is unsurvivable. Or maybe he/she is just a casual user once a month or two, doesn't like alcohol that much and has a different sort of night out. Or maybe he/she is just a lost cause blasting the shit to the tune of $1,000 a week or something stupid.

All of these people get welfare of some sort. Maybe the dole. Maybe they're chronically ill, whatever. Which one is the "ice addict"?  How do you define what an addict is? Do you cut all of the above off welfare and put them on a rehab waiting list? Morrison wants Centrelink to make that decision.

Centrelink!  The mind boggles.......

Anyway, let's say Centrelink decides the hopeless case above is the addict and cut his welfare payments, whatever they are. What then does the addict do? Steal to eat of course. Couch surfs. Goes further into the spiral of despair. Already in need of help they don't understand why the state is punishing them by making their lives worse.
Meanwhile, he is flagging another controversial welfare reform that would cut payments to welfare recipients addicted to the drug crystal methamphetamine, known as ice.

Under the proposal, those addicted to the drug would lose their entitlement to receive welfare benefits and forced into rehab.

Mr Morrison believes addicts could volunteer for assistance, or be dobbed in by Centrelink staff.

However, Dr Alex Wodak, president of the Australian Drug Law Reform Foundation, is vehemently opposed to the plan.

He said forcing addicts into rehab is fanciful, considering the lack of available places for addicts who currently want them.

"Surely the Minister couldn't be serious," Dr Wodak said.

"That he wants to take money away from just people who are in trouble with one kind of drug, what about the other drugs?" more

Morrison should get the fuck out of his happy clappy Hillsong church and take a look at what the real world is all about.
