Turnbull won't act on marriage equality

Update from Alex Greenwich.

Despite there being a marriage bill already in parliament, new prime minister Turnbull has ruled out acting on it allowing the Lieberals a conscience. Despite the recent senate inquiry into it all saying the overwhelming opinion of Australians is for the pollies to do their fuckin job and pass the bill, actually representing the community and not a few ultra right wing nuts that don't.

So now with Turnbull we have to go through a divisive, and LGBT damaging, national debate on marriage equality with a plebiscite. Or vote for Labor (or Greens) who will pass it within 100 days of gaining office.
New prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has confirmed he will stick with his party's policy of a people's vote on marriage equality.

Asked in question time on Tuesday about his past support for a free vote, Turnbull admitted that that is the more traditional route for reform of this nature, but that his party had settled on a policy.

“Our government, our party room has decided that the decision will be taken by a plebiscite,” he said.

“At the next election, Australians will have a choice. The Labor Party will say vote for us and the marriage equality will be dealt with by the politicians in a free vote after the election. And we will say, if we are re-elected to government, every single Australian will have a say.” more
