He's got the first job, but decided to still go to this interview to see what the place was like. It's even closer than the other one, just down the road. An aged care facility dealing mainly with dementia sufferers. However after going there he's decided not to proceed any further with it.
The head nurse apparently didn't take a liking to him, to the point of almost blatantly putting him off. Saying "You're going to get really bored here", in respect to his resume and qualifications.
It's a christian run place as well, which is all fine and dandy. The job that he's already gotten is also a christian run thing, although a different denomination. In respect to him being gay (when he mentioned me his partner) the reply there straight away was that "we are an equal opportunity employer". In other words they didn't care.
It was a different story at this place however. The issue of him working for christian places was well and truly addressed in his resume, simply by the number of christian run places he's worked for in the past. Yet in this case they specifically asked again during the interview "How do you feel about working for a christian organisation?". I mean WTF kind of question is that?
Believe it or not, although most religious run places don't care, it's still legal in Australia for christian organisations to discriminate against you if your "lifestyle" is at odds with their beliefs. If they choose to do so that is. Which in this case the writing was on the wall.
I suggested he forget about that one and he agreed. After all he's just gone through with his HIV discrimination at the last place, months of mental health recovery and a court case in the wings, the last thing he'd be needing would be to open himself up again to that possibility.
