She came home from work yesterday and very seriously said "Can I talk to you for a second?" I thought there was something really wrong the way she said it, but all it was is that she's got a place lined up to move into. She showed me the pictures printed out and a bit of a description about it.
I resisted the desire to leap happily.
I'm sure she'll do fine living out in the big wide world on her own. We raised her to be a survivor and she always has been. Sometimes at the expense of me though.... There's a lot of history there. In fact she's lived on her own in the past when we couldn't get on (to put it mildly). She came back to live with me when I was in ICU two and a half years ago. In the end she's landed on her feet with an excellent job in child care, well paid. Certainly don't feel it's too soon to leave home at 22.
Said that there's a lot of socialisation that goes on when somebody lives independently. Some today stay at home until they're 30 or something. Can't imagine her ever wanting to do that.
