NSW pollies say no, just

So close and yet so far. One bloody vote. Our pollies in New South Wales voted on the much anticipated marriage equality bill. It was defeated 21-19. A very close result, so close you can almost smell victory.

There were a couple of factors involved in the defeat. First the premier Barry O'Farrell recently changed his stance from supporting the bill to not supporting it, towing the Coalition party line that it should be a Federal matter. In other words Abbott says no.

Fred Nile (arch enemy Christian maniac) also got in O'Farrell's ear urging him to make a public statement saying that he didn't support the bill, which O'Farrell did.

Never the less, the vote was historic, as the public continues to drag our pollies kicking and screaming into the 21st century. It was the very first time that any members of the Coalition voted in favour of same sex marriage.

Perhaps the most profound comment came from Fred Nile. Fred Nile spoke to gay independent Alex Greenwich after the vote who was involved in putting the bill together. On Greenwich's Facebook page he told Nile that he wasn't giving up and that marriage equality was going to happen. Nile's answer was that he won't be alive forever.

I tend to agree. Here is Fred Nile:

Here is Alex Greenwich:

The pictures say it all. A young vibrant politician who actually is representative, vs a fossil from last century.
