TPP fall out continues - US power projection?

A most interesting read about the floundering Trans Pacific Power-grab Partnership agreement, which raises issues that I at least haven't thought of.

For one, the absence of China in the agreement.
The inference, noted previously in this space, is that the pact is intended to project American neo-liberalism into Asia as part of a “contain China” policy rooted in the Cold War and so stale it can only crumble the instant it is exposed to air. In many respects, the IP draft Wikileaks released a few days ago confirms the thought that the TPP will draw battle lines in the Pacific region that need not be there. - See more
It just gets worse and worse with this bullshit. Not only will the agreement make us all slaves to the corporations (which is bad enough) but the whole thing seems to be designed as some kind of US power projection in the region. Which is bloody appalling. China and Australia are getting along OK. We're from different systems but there's the growing recognition in Australia that we're not colonials anymore from England, but are part of Asia. Indeed the Asian economy is tipped to be the new powerhouse for the world economy (that's what happens when you don't ship all your manufacturing offshore).

Why in the hell would Australia want to be part of some sneaky US ploy to sideline China? Why should Australia bow to the crazy political wacko's that are coming out of the US? We're doing OK without being held up by US based economic extremism thank you very much. I believe I speak for most in the region in saying that Australia and Asia no longer see the US as the be all and end all of economics. Even more, the US has become the social system that we just don't want, and an example of how unfettered capitalism, along with unfettered political wacko's, can destroy a country.

Another problem is that we're a democracy and expect our gov's to formulate future directions publicly. We're not stupid. In fact by making it public the discussion can expand and ideas explored. But what do we have? The US negotiating the whole thing behind closed doors in the utmost secrecy. This isn't democracy at all. Why should we have to abandon democracy for a fuckin "trade deal" FFS?
But when you consider the secrecy against the Wikileaks document, you come up against a fundamental problem still awaiting a solution: Is the globalization process of necessity in conflict with democratic procedure? - See more
Ah yes, but it's much more than a simple "trade deal" isn't it. That's just the title to make the thing look innocuous. In reality the Trans Pacific Partnership is firmly shapping up to be a US invasion of the region by stealth. The US wants to project it's power in the region and export it's social failure.

Message to the Washington buffoons, you have lead your country into failure. We don't want to be a part of that failure.
