Media censorship in Australia

It's pretty clear now that censorship of the main stream media has well and truly arrived in Australia. We've had some of the biggest protests which have been described as some of the largest since the Vietnam war. A grass roots movement of rage, against a gov that is unrepresentative. A gov that lied to get into power and now claims a mandate. A gov that appears to be hell bent on moving workers from skilled well paying jobs to corporate slavery. A gov that speaks for the elite, not the people. Anyone who had anything to do with the March in March protests on the weekend will know just how angry people are with what Abbott is trying to do to Australia. Not radicals, not extremists. Mums, dads and kids, families of all shapes and sizes, workers, schoolies, and on and on.

But what did we get from the Australian main stream media? One particular fact that stands out in my mind was the Sydney Morning Herald. New South Wales second biggest newspaper. Was there much of an analysis of the events on the Monday after the marches? Was there much coverage of the Canberra protests and the statement of no confidence in the Abbott gov? As I read in one article about it, there wasn't much analysis at all. In fact there was nothing. Not even a story about the protests. Crickets..... (I'm sure the latest cricket scores were in there BTW). What an incredibly glaring omission of a protest event across the country, that was about far more important issues than the cricket scores.

It's absolutely true now that you can find more online than in the old style papers and broadcast television. This is an interesting little piece about the Sydney march:
