"Abbott's end: 5 days to go" - Turnbull gathers numbers

The latest assessment of Abbott's demise from Bob Ellis. Like I said, I dunno how right or wrong he might be, but reading through it he does give a convincing argument. I think I'm starting to salivate:
It is fairly likely the Liberal vote was on 33 on Friday and the National vote on 7 and the Liberal vote is now 30, and the National 6, the difference having fled to Palmer, or Family First, or Labor, or the Greens. Newspolls confirming this are being suppressed as I speak, along with Shorten leading by twenty percent as preferred Prime Minister, a margin unprecedented in our history.

Can Abbott last until he flies out with burnt feathers on Wednesday? It’s possible. But it’s very, very likely the numbers will gather in his absence to foreshorten and usurp him on his return. This is because he will have lost by then, in eight months of national leadership, two million votes, of which bare hundreds will ever come back, and sixty seats of the ninety they hold including his own.

Turnbull is gathering numbers as I speak, and it is probable another, like Hunt or Dutton, will get up as a ‘compromise’ candidate, and an utterly new Budget be promised after Hockey is sacked and leaves politics to face ICAC charges, probably, and Turnbull or Frydenberg replaces him, and the Napthine government is washed away in an avalanche in November, and ten more Newman backbenchers join Palmer and Katter, and Baird faces ICAC charges too and his party replaces him.

It is impossible now that Abbott can convince anyone on his side of the House that he can get any semblance of his Budget through. It is possible, just possible, that he will madly call a suicidal Double Dissolution but unlikely that he will still be in power to call it.

Five days, and counting. more
Sounds to me like the gov is suffering political paralysis. They got a turd as leader and his spiral down is unstoppable. A leader that the electorate is washing it's hands of, indeed has stopped listening to a word Abbott says. Why would we? He's proved himself the most complete of liars. The gov is dead in the water, with nowhere to go.

As I said, Abbott has royally fucked himself. Destroyed his reputation built up in opposition, and now facing a shit of a budget that the senate is going to destroy. Unable to take it to the polls (Lieberal bloodbath anyone?) the only course left for the Lieberals is to replace Abbott as leader. Albeit they have to be dragged kicking and screaming to do it.

Something interesting as well. I noted recently that the Greens Christine Milne said she couldn't trust Abbott in negotiations, even futher tightening the noose on Abbott. She's pretty much told the Lieberals to get rid of Abbott.
