Like it's your fault, you have to wake up to yourself, pull your socks up and get a bloody job! It's your fault if you get sick. It's your fault if you get pregnant. It's your fault if you can't make ends meet. You made poor life decisions. We can't help you now, you're fucked. But we must put a disincentive to becoming poor in place, and must encourage pulling your socks up and gaining personal wealth.
If you follow god and make the right godly decisions, you will be rewarded by god with all the wealth you need. As godly overlords it is our duty to reward you for your for following god and all. It is you who has done this.
If you don't follow god and make bad decisions, it is our duty as godly overlords of you to punish you for that and make life hard for you as a disincentive to be poor. It is you who has done this.
Being poor will be punished. Being rich will be rewarded. This is the new Australian way don't you know? Worship capitalist wealth gaining and fuck the bloody lazy assholes who can't be bothered getting off their ass to do the same right? It was their choice to do so right?
This apparently Abbott world view, the Catholic he is, is taken to the extreme in the terrible discoveries of the Catholic Irish Babies. Used for medical experiments they were thrown out as trash.
And an interesting insight into why so many children may have been so casually treated and tossed away was revealed in a recent feature on the scandal in the Independent. Babies born to unwed mothers—and this, let it be noted, would have included mothers who were raped—“were denied baptism and, if they died from the illness and disease rife in such facilities, also denied a Christian burial.” In other words, the Catholic institutions that these women and their children were forced to turn to as their only refuge viciously turned their backs on them — treating them, quite literally, as garbage.Seriously, does Abbott view baddies like me as social trash?
This is abuse of the highest order. Abuse in life, abuse in death. Carried out by religious orders so warped, so perverted in their utter lack of mercy that they participated in the suffering of an unfathomable number of babies and children. This is what the Catholic Church of Ireland is capable of, when it is given free rein over the bodies of its most vulnerable members. And an official inquiry hasn’t even begun. As Michael Dwyer told the Mail this weekend, “What I have found is just the tip of a very large and submerged iceberg.” more
