Radio shock jock Alan Jones was found guilty of inciting hatred and contempt of Australian Muslims in the lead up to Sydney's Cronulla riots. |
Labor MP Tulip Siddiq gives a very good argument for banning Trump from entering the UK, pointing to the increase in violence against Muslim minorities in the US as Trump ramped up the hate speech.
Outside the US "freedom of speech" doesn't include inciting violence.
In Australia Alan Jones and the Cronulla riots come to mind.
Controversial broadcaster Alan Jones is under pressure to make a public apology after a court upheld a ruling that he incited hatred and vilified Lebanese Muslims in on-air comments made in the lead-up to the Cronulla riots.
The broadcaster and his employer, Harbour Radio, had appealed against a 2009 decision by the New South Wales Administrative Decisions Tribunal.
In its original decision, the tribunal found Jones "incited hatred, serious contempt and severe ridicule of Lebanese Muslims" during on-air comments in April 2005.
He had described them as "vermin" who "rape and pillage a nation that's taken them in". ABC
