Well it's because the poor are Abbott's baddies isn't it? Pretty much. Here the finance minister is asked why the changes to payments to the poor are permanent, and the debt tax for high income earners isn't?
*pfffft* Let's see what the well off would say if they had to pay three times as much to see a doctor? Say a $70 doctor visit went up to $210, with nothing back from Medicare. But even that's not the same.
How about it costs about 17% of their weekly (after rent/mortgage paid) income for one doctor visit? On my $250 survival money a week, $38 for a typical visit is about 17% of my after rent income. What does that work out to for someone on say $200,000 a year?
Well let's figure it out. The tax on $200000 a year is about $65,000, so I won't include that. Now I will assume that the person lives in some swanky inner city apartment for say $1,000 a week. That would bring the after tax and rent in the hand yearly income to about $83,000 a year, or just under $1,600 a week.
So for this to be fair, a typical doctor visit would cost the same percentage income as what it's going to cost me. 17% of my $250 works out to about the $36 for the typical doctor visit. So what's 17% of $1,600 a week?
About $270. With nothing back from Medicare or private health insurance. I'm sure the well off would have something to say about that.
