Cop uses his title to post anti gay rant in paper - US

Sydney has a very bad history with the police and gays. Most notably 1978 with the first protest march and the subsequent police brutality that followed. There were suicides and job loses over it (by the gays not the cops). That public brutality was what inspired the now once a year Sydney Mardi Gras parade.

Over the years too there has been police involvement in cover ups and lack of action with Sydney gays being bashed. Even alleged police involvement in beat bashings.

Not to mention the most recent times in mardi gras with brutal arrests being shown around the world during Mardi Gras, arrests over virtually nothing, leading to a complete review and community input for subsequent Mardi Gras policing.

In short Sydney gays take police views and attitudes towards the gay community extremely seriously. Cops in the community with homophobic and intolerant views have no business in being in the force.

So it was with interest this story that I saw in the US. A cop posted in the local newspaper, using his police lieutenant title in doing so, a homophobic rant against SCOTUS and gays in general. He's free to do that of course as a citizen if he's happy to let everyone know of his bigotry, but surely not as a cop.
