Prison gaurd gets jail for bashing inmate

I commented about this in April when the video was first released into the news here.

An appalling example of how those in the law and order profession often think that they're above the law themselves. I myself have had two broken ribs from the police a while back.

So it was with great happiness when I heard the news:
A prison officer has been jailed for seven months for assaulting an inmate in a Newcastle cell.
44-year-old Terry Dolling repeatedly punched a hepatitis C infected patient last year after the prisoner spat on him.

The court heard the officer had an unblemished record and but Magistrate Jennifer Atkinson said the circumstances were grave.

She said it was important to send a message the community that Dolling’s actions were wrong.
Loud gasps were heard in Toronto Local Court when the sentence was read out.

Many work colleagues shook their heads and expressed their disdain at the verdict and his lawyer said an immediate appeal would be launched.

None of his colleagues would comment fearful they could jeopardise his appeal chances.
He will be eligible for parole after serving four months.

Good bloody job. I hope he really finds out what it's like on the other side of the law. I doubt he's going to be treated with any respect by his fellow inmates.
