I always wondered why people liked Turnbull. I guess it was simply that he wasn't Tony Abbott that he gained such enormous popularity. In reality you could have put a gala in the PM's chair after Abbott, and the entire country would have celebrated.
Personally I've always thought Turnbull was too wishy washy to be PM material. Full of hot air and long winded answers, without really getting to the point or anything remotely resembling a cut-through election slogan. He doesn't talk the same language as the average Australian. In fact it seems the only language he really knows is corporate-speak.
Now these inadequacies are coming to the fore. Surrounded by zealots and career politicians, a soft approach like his is going to be ineffective. Christensen and Bernadi would be happy to eat the LGBT for breakfast, Abbott and the lunar right happy to eat pensioners and welfare recipients. Near frothing at the mouth maniacs.
Abbott was Howard's attack dog. His effectiveness left in no doubt after bringing down the Gillard gov. He fights dirty. He doesn't care about decorum, saying "it's just politics". Anything goes, the end justifies the means.
It appears the attack dog is now centred on attacking Turnbull.
The gov now looks to be imploding into it's own chaos.
