Now Lieberals are seriously worried that he'll blow the election. The polls are already heading steeply south even before this week when nuclear war erupted between Abbott and Turnbull.
Oh how sweet it is. Well at least now Abbott's wrecking his own party instead of the Australian community :)
Coalition MPs are growing increasingly fearful that former prime minister Tony Abbott could blow up the government's election prospects in his bid to get back at Malcolm Turnbull and others who helped depose him.
Two significant outbursts by Mr Abbott this week have Liberal MPs, both past and present, fearing the government is headed towards the mutually assured destructive behaviour of Labor during the Rudd/Gillard years. Even MPs who supported Mr Abbott during last year's leadership spill are concerned.
The issue featured heavily during conversations on Wednesday night at a Liberal Party gala event in Parliament House to mark the 20th anniversary of the election of the Howard government.
One Liberal, who did not wish to be identified, prevailed upon a party elder during the function to counsel Mr Abbott, but was told "he's not listening to anyone". Australian Financial Review
