QLD Stafford by election 18% away from Lieberals - Labor wins

That's a big swing in anyone's language. Campbell Newman's gov was supposed to be the Lieberals big plan for Australia. They praised Newman, calling him "brave" in cutting bazillions out of everything, even whilst the Federal election was in full swing. This the reason why Abbott came out with the now infamous "no cuts" promises, as what Newman was doing in QLD was showing up unfavorably in Lieberal federal polling close to the election.

Despite being elected in through a massive landslide that very nearly saw Labor lose so many seats as to just about not even qualify to be a party anymore in the QLD state parliament. Yet now, after a big dose of his austerity gov, and the Abbott federal debacle trying to accomplish the same, the voters have resoundingly said no in this by election and voted in a new member for the QLD parliament from Labor.
Labor has won the by-election in the Queensland seat of Stafford, in Brisbane's north, with a huge swing of 18.6 per cent.

Voters in Stafford went to the polls yesterday to replace former assistant health minister Chris Davis, who quit in May after clashing with the Government on several issues.

The ALP's Anthony Lynham secured 61.5 per cent of the vote after preferences, in the biggest swing at a Queensland by-election since changes were made to the electoral act in 1992. more
