Renters have rights

I've been living here for years, so it's interesting that this issue has only come to light now. Perhaps the years of counseling and extreme happy pill dose is having an effect?

In any case, David has an interesting hobby growing cactus's, which outside the back door is a little area that get's the sun all year round. So I was looking at his latest efforts out there with him the other day, and notice much more detail about a large piece of corrugated iron attached above the little fence between the back door and the laundry where this little space is:

Turns out the thing has been nailed there from the other side, where there is a huge owner occupied house, an old couple been there most of their lives with their kids long gone. They keep to themselves.

But looking at this divider thing they've nailed up there is a bloody insult. Makes the place look like a ghetto or something. I expect it's been there for years and progressive renters have just assumed it was OK as it was already there and no one thought to complain. Until now.

I just thought it couldn't be council approved. And what about safety? We had 110kmph winds a while back here, it's a wonder the thing hasn't become a giant flying knife. And why should we have to put up with it? Because we're renters? Pfffft. So I emailed the real estate property manager asking if anything could be done about it.

He promptly replied he will be sending the neighbours a letter saying it must be removed immediately, and for me to let him know if it's still there at the end of the month :)

So there you go. Soon the little area will be transformed onto a breezy sun filled cactus paradise :)
