Greens blast Abbott - High Court challenge

Christine Milne, leader of the Greens (and quite representative of the electorate IMO) has hammered Abbott's plan to challenge the Australian Capital Territory's marriage equality legislation in the High Court. I should note here that the ACT hasn't even passed the legislation yet, although it does look like a forgone conclusion.

Abbott's reasons for this are that he wants to make the marriage thing consistent through the whole of Australia. Bullshit. All he wants to do is stop us dastardly, agenda driven, sinful poofs, getting married. Or something like that. He wants to go against progress and continue the uniform discrimination across Australia.

This is Milne's response:

Milne said Brandis and Abbott needed to justify the use of public money to challenge the ACT’s laws and if it was truly interested in a national approach it would back the Greens’ marriage equality bill currently before the federal Senate.
“Attorney-General George Brandis should put up or shut up when it comes to the advice that supposedly justifies spending public money on a legal challenge that is all about maintaining last century discrimination,” Milne said.
“Far from preventing people from marrying in the ACT, Mr Brandis will end up with many couples joining the High Court action.
“Tony Abbott and George Brandis will need to look same-sex couples in the eye and explain the real reasons they are taking this futile action. It’s last century discrimination and the rest of us have moved on.” more
Exactly. Come to my house Tony, see my relationship of love, get to know me. Look me in the eye and tell me why you want to do this to me. Why are you making me hate you? Why won't your gov represent me, instead of the fuckin redneck bigots scared shitless of boats and poofs?
