USA shut: complete system failure

I am utterly amazed. The US gov is still on strike..... um, I mean shut. I assume that means (like it does for wage earning workers) that all those involved in the strike action won't get paid anything for the period of the strike?

This is just way outside my understanding at all. I don't get how a gov can shut down because people don't agree. Down under if you can't supply legislation you go to the polls and have an election. Let the people decide. From here it looks like the people don't have a choice and they're being held ransom to ideologues in Washington; ideologues that will possibly fuck the world economy all over again.

Gov employees aren't getting paid. They're turning up to work for nothing, on the promise that they'll be back paid once the gov opens again. Already that alone is starting to ripple through the economy there. I don't care how microscopic the gov may have gotten over there, but if you shut off all gov money to the economy then the country is fucked. Simple.

Wall St is getting nervous. Is this going to be round two of the GFC?Because ideologues can't agree in the US? This is utterly insane for one thing. For another it's a complete system failure. At the very least a country needs to be governed, good or bad. Agreement or not.

Forget the gov workers who can last till the end of this month. What about the pensioners who can't? What about those who rely on the gov just to eat? It's shut??  OMFG............. This is with half of 300million people living at or below the poverty line.

I've left what's left in my superannuation in the lower interest safe fund. This could get really bad darlings...........
