ACL wants hate speech laws against LGBT "set aside" for plebiscite "no" argument

Shelton, vile hateful bigoted christian bully

Oh for fucks sake.

More love from the christians....... In this case it beggars belief. I had to read it twice.

The hate group against the LGBT, the Australian Christian Lobby, is one of the organisations being consulted by gov over how to manage a gay marriage plebiscite. The ACL is well known in Australia for it's vehement opposition to all things gay, sometimes going so far as to use imported arguments from overseas against us (such as being gay is comparable to smoking). It has also been mentioned in parliament by concerned MP's about the impact of such hate speech on vulnerable young Australian LGBT.

Australia has laws against hate speech against the LGBT. It's a crime for example in NSW to engage in "any public act that could incite or encourage hatred, serious contempt or severe ridicule". Incredibly, unbelievably, the Australian Christian Lobby wants such laws across Australia that protect the LGBT to be relaxed so they can argue their case against us getting married without fear of prosecution.
The leading advocates for a "no" vote on same-sex marriage are pushing the federal government to "override" anti-discrimination laws during the upcoming plebiscite campaign.

The Australian Christian Lobby are calling for the temporary change to ensure the "no" camp can speak freely during the debate to legalise same-sex marriage.

ACL managing director Lyle Shelton told Fairfax Media his organisation was very concerned about fairness during the campaign as state anti-discrimination laws in particular have "such a low threshold".
Pointing to a case in Tasmania where the Catholic Church has faced questions from the state's Anti-Discrimination Commissioner over a "Don't mess with marriage" booklet, Mr Shelton warned those who argued against same-sex marriage would be faced with the "constant threat of quasi and full-blown legal action". Sydney Morning Herald
What a vile bunch of hateful asshole closeted fuckwits without a life, the ACL is. I don't know where to start. The audacity of them to consider themselves above the law! The hatred they have for us to want such a thing. To have them want to use hate speech with state sanction to argue against David and I getting married. Vile, despicable cretins.
In a new and bitter twist in the ongoing debate about the plebiscite we’re having because politicians lack the courage to do the job they were elected to do and just change the damn marriage laws, Lyle Shelton, managing director of the right-wing fundamentalist Australian Christian Lobby, has now called for anti discrimination laws forbidding hate speech against LGBTQI people to be relaxed, so that his tribe can argue the “no” side in the same-sex marriage plebiscite without fear of legal action being taken against them.

It’s difficult to know where to start deconstructing the bigotry of this: a Christian lobby group is demanding the right to use, with impunity, what the law defines as hate speech to argue its case against same-sex marriage.

If any group needs access to hate speech in order to argue its case about anything, it obviously has no case. The very request for impunity from the law is all the evidence needed to demonstrate that its case is already illegal, before any argument is embarked upon. However, Shelton argues that anti-discrimination laws have “such a low threshold,” anything the no side argues will make them vulnerable to the constant threat of legal action. No Place For Sheep
