Paraplegic not "disabled enough" for DSP - Centrelink, Tasmania

How in the hell can Centrelink come up with such an absurd notion? That someone who is permanently disabled in a wheel chair doesn't qualify for the Disability Support Pension? The case is under review and with the media attention I do hope the situation is rectified, but to come up with that conclusion in the first place defies comprehension.

It surely must be another stupid idiotic Centrelink fuck up. Playing around with people's lives. Centrelink run by the Lieberals. I wonder how long this bloke's spent on hold to them?
PARAPLEGIC Richard Jones is no bludger.

The 30-year-old Brighton father of one was an industrious worker with a proud 13-year employment history before a near-fatal woodcutting accident last May confined him to life in a wheelchair.

Now the former powder-coating company manager is desperate to get his life back on track and says he just needs a fair go from the Commonwealth Government.

Despite still learning to manage his condition and being responsible for his young son half the time, Mr Jones is considered just another jobseeker and as such receives a Newstart Allowance.

Centrelink has knocked back his application for a Disability Support Pension which would give him the extra dollars each fortnight to retrain in an industry of his choice.

Instead, with his mortgage insurance due to expire at the end of the year, Mr Jones says he faces losing his house, his dignity and his sanity. Mercury
